“When I decided to fully remodel my primary bathroom, I interviewed a bunch of contractors. It was a very frustrating experience as most people were not transparent about the cost of the job or how long it would take. They also were not clear on their labor charges, which led to many inflated estimates. When I met Ryan, President of Details, I was immediately impressed. Not only did he give me the most competitive estimate (by far), he explained every aspect of the job, broke down the charges, and gave me different price points for materials and options that would impact the estimate. This transparency was very much appreciated and different from all the other contractors I talked with. It allowed me to be in control of what was happening and feel good about the estimate.
Most companies claim that they are customer driven but… I quickly found that this is not the case. Without question, Ryan and the Details crew are the real deal! He spent a lot of time to understand what I wanted, talked through lots of possibilities, answered all of my questions, and made sure I had met and was comfortable with his crew before they started work in my house. He is also a great guy and is one of those rare people in this profession who obviously cares about the quality of his work and absolutely wants his customers to be happy when the job is finished. I am extremely happy with my new bathroom and with the quality of the work. Everybody who comes to my house loves it!
I do not usually write reviews or associate my name with other people’s work but in this case, I wanted to share my experience working with Ryan and his Portland-based company, as I hope it helps others looking to do renovations and contractor work to feel confident in their choice. There are three things I look for in a company who I have hired to work at my house. They must: (1) do quality work, (2) do it at a fair price, and (3) do it reliably and on-time. “Let’s get real.. the second you start to think about a “renovation” or “upgrade” to your home your first thought is most likely, how much is this going to cost, followed by how long and stressful will this process be? These are all the thoughts my family had, in between having 3 kids, 2 dogs and working from home while transitioning jobs. When Details says they’re ready, they mean business. They take the stress out of the renovation! They are personable, and their cleanliness is something I have never seen in a renovation - hello! How did our house not have dust everywhere?! Prior to speaking with Ryan, my husband and I had a few estimates done to size up our renovation, and no one could match the price like Details. We never felt uncomfortable talking about budget, and the team worked with us to get the look and feel we wanted while being mindful of cost. “Ryan and the Details team have done more than renovate our house – they have provided us with a safe, high-quality home where my family and I can confidently spend the rest of our days. Our original house was part diner from the 1950s (for real…it was Fat’s Diner on route 25 in Gorham and was later moved to our current location in Gorham) and part ‘addition’ from the 1980s. When we met with Ryan, we had expressed our goal of adding on a second floor to the existing building, realizing that the current structure would likely need some reinforcement as well. Right from the first meeting – we could feel Ryan’s excitement for the job and even more so, for the opportunity to help our family. I have to say, Details was not the least expensive bid that we received. And of course, cost is always a factor in these big life decisions. However, my husband and I could tell that every penny we spent with Ryan and his company would not be spent frivolously and we trusted that he was committed to gathering the best team possible. That piece of mind was priceless and we were thrilled to partner with Ryan in this large endeavor. The pandemic of course proved to be a huge obstacle in terms of pricing and labor in the construction world. And despite this heavy weight on Ryan’s shoulders, he did not waiver from the price that we agreed upon when we signed the contract, just days before the spike in materials made some items triple in base cost. We do understand that this was a huge attesment to Ryan’s character and we will forever be grateful for his strong work ethic and his commitment to the well being of his clients in every sense. I can’t quite put in to words how much we love our renovated home, complete with a full second floor addition. It’s a project that could have been overwhelming and stress inducing, but Ryan did all that he could to ensure that our experience was on the smoother sailing side while he worked hard to coordinate and problem solve the day to day challenges. While at the same time, Ryan was always willing to listen to our ideas and was excellent in incorporating our style into his design. Part of the reason why our home is so amazing is because we can literally feel the love that went into every corner of the house. In a world where it’s not easy to know who you can trust, I can say that Ryan and his team are worthy of your investment…both financially and quite honestly emotionally. Ryan respects the fact that rebuilding your home is a big deal and he is there (and very responsive!) every step of the way.”
